Put it on the record: Predictions for the 2017 NL Central standings!
The Cubs win the division by another wide margin, though not as wide as they did a year ago. The Cardinals addressed some key areas of need in the offseason, but the injury to Alex Reyes hurts their pitching depth. In a weak National League, 87 wins–one better than their total from last season–should be enough to vault them into a wild card.
The Pirates have some good young pitching on the way, and a bounce back season from Andrew McCutcheon could keep the Buccos in play for a playoff spot, but I don’t think they made enough additions over the winter to pull it off.
The Brewers have burgeoning talent, but they’re still a year or two away. Don’t be surprised if that young staff led by Zach Davies keeps the Crew in a lot of games, and pushes their win total closer to 80 than many expect.
The Reds have a couple pieces in Joey Votto and Billy Hamilton, but their pitching is going to struggle. It’s going to be a long year in Cincy.
